Supporting people with dementia and their caregivers
We provide meaningful memory evoking film therapy
We’re dedicated to supporting people living with alzheimer’s and dementia and their caregivers by offering meaningful, memory-evoking reminiscence film therapy. It was as a result of seeing the frustration, hopelessness, fear of the future, isolation and anger on carers faces that motivated us. We are an award-winning Scottish heritage film maker who has developed a dementia reminiscence therapy. Within our unique, authentic and world recognised Scottish heritage archive of 530 hours of film we have the resources available and the past experience of dementia to make a difference.

People with dementia and alzheimer’s are not being supported
The lack of support that people living with dementia and their loved ones face when dementia or alzheimer’s takes over their lives is unacceptable. Coming as an outsider to this aspect of health care we were shocked at the large sums of money devoted to dementia organisations and to research. The vast sums of money have not producing an abundance of tangible relevant 24/7 support therapy. In Scotland in 2023 £16.5 million pounds was spent on dementia research. For that sum no new drug or therapy for care or cure has been developed since the year 2000. This to us as outsiders to dementia health care is disgusting.
People living with dementia and their caregivers are predominately just left to get on the best they can. This does not have to be the case. Our intervention is a validated tangible support therapy. We can help bring back aspects of a past normality. Providing respite from the constant relentlessness which is destroying carers lives day by day. As they have no support therapy available 24/7. This constant stressful experience does not have to be the inevitable outcome.
Our reminiscence therapy can address the issues carers face daily in the following supportive ways for all involved in the caring process.
1. –helps people unlock their store of personal memories and find the places where their memories hide which brings back meaning to their lives
2. –re connect them with their past “love and joy” feelings and rekindle their “live happily ever after” expectation
3. –the clips and the associated stimuli created enables the person living with dementia and alzheimer’s to return for a period of time to a society that they once knew and one which respected their individuality, contribution and uniqueness.
4. –open up a new pathway for families to return for periods of time to the way it used to be. This allows the person with dementia to tell their own story again.
5. –fosters improved relationships between the dementia persons family. Helping to sustain part of their family role. Our therapy fills the huge gap in provision and will help to bring their special personal moments, times, and events back again
6. –it helps people to extend their capabilities, live a more normal life, find acceptance, hope, expectation, and positivity. Enabling them to stay connected with things that matter to them making their lived experiences real once more
7. –we feature sincere, friendly, relationship building inputs. We feature real people, animals, nature, scenery and aspects of life and work which the people living with dementia and alzheimer’s can associate with
8. –our therapy meets many of the criteria in the National Dementia Carers Action Plan in a new and dynamic way
9. –the Scottish Dementia Working Group campaign strives to provide more help and support for people living with dementia and their carers. Our therapy can also positively address research findings which advocate more support resources are required. We do that by linking with their own meaningful lived experiences. All aspects which give carers cherished respite moments
10. –reduces the time, cost and stress of future long term care home provision. This potentially slows dementia progression and hospitalisation. Allowing them to make their home a place where they can stay for longer. Knowing that our support therapy is available 24/7 to suit their routines
11. –we can source from within our unique 530 hours of footage, the appropriate content. This is special to the people living with dementia and customise the commentary to suit the people living with dementia — Our clips help to address health inequalities. The clips provide people living with dementia and their carer/s support choices and more power over dementia. Our therapy can be self-accessed/ selected/managed. At a time and place to suit you not just for the prescribed year. Much more importantly for the entire dementia journey
12. – our therapy reduces the need for pharmaceutical intervention with all the negative side effects which carers have to deal with the best they can
13. –we also provide carer guidance/training notes and advice on how their expertise can become extended. This shows carers that we respond to their needs. Showing that they are not alone in facing and dealing with the trauma of dementia care
14. –address many key research findings which advocate better access and support for people living with dementia. Our 24/7 access provision can solve this which research has found exists for more than half of people living with dementia in Scotland
15. –our clips can also be viewed with family and friends present. This wider viewing of the clip can bring greater dynamic to the topic and stimulate unforeseen additional benefits. It also helps friends to contribute to the care, health and wellbeing of their loved ones.

We can provide much needed respite for YOU the carer
The quotes below are from two leading dementia organisations. They both highlight how difficult caring can be. They emphasise the need for having a break from the rigours of being a carer for someone with dementia and alzheimer’s. Our clips can do just that. We have found that the people living with dementia are happy at times to watch our clips themselves. We have seen how todays favourite clip can be used in a loop shown over and over. Our clips engage the people living with dementia allowing time for the carer to recharge their batteries. This can be a time to perhaps hand over the caring to someone else while the clips are being viewed.
Calming effect

Our clips with nature provides valuable tranquil moments
We found our clips can be used to calm any stressful period. Making life for the carer much less stressed. The development, research and format of our clips have elements of carer support built into each one. So that you can at least relax a bit during your normal day. Our clips provide you with support which can improve your quality of life. It is important to protect your wellbeing and help to address the issues raised below.
Alzheimer’s Society, said:
“Unpaid carers of people with dementia, around 700,000 people, are part of the backbone of the care sector. These unsung heroes are being pushed to breaking point. They face a constant battle to support their loved one’s increasing needs. They are exacerbated by the hours they spend selflessly caring for a loved one. Carers are trying their exhausted best to give people with dementia the quality of life they deserve.
Two-thirds of unpaid carers we surveyed last year told us they desperately needed more support to protect their wellbeing. They’re worn out, stressed, and struggling to make ends meet, as many have had to stop work or reduce their working hours due to greater caring responsibilities.
The need for investment in carers’ support is more acute than ever. People must be supported properly through the introduction of measures to ensure carers are identified earlier as well as provision of respite for them, as part of any new reform plans from the Government.”
It must be remembered that the Alzheimer’s Society has not managed to provide what they advocate. Our therapy goes a long way in doing what no other organisation has managed to do. Visit our shop to see for your self what we offer.
Age Scotland said
“When you’re caring for someone else, it can be easy to overlook your own needs. But looking after your health and making time for yourself can help you feel better and more able to cope with your caring role.
Caring for someone with dementia can lead to feelings of guilt, sadness, confusion or anger. Unlike other conditions, it can be difficult to share these feelings with someone with dementia, leaving you feeling very isolated.
It’s important to take a break from care if you need one. This is known as respite care.
Caring for someone can be a positive experience. But it can also mean you feel a range of difficult emotions towards the person you’re caring for. You might feel sadness or guilt – or even anger at times – as you do the best you can to help them.”
