Moments of clarity are closer than you think

Dementia takes much, but it does not take everything.
Moments of clarity, laughter, and connection can still break through, even in the midst of dementia. We see it every day with our reminiscence film therapy, a gentle, non-drug therapy designed to help people with dementia reconnect with themselves and their loved ones, using the power of carefully chosen moments from the past. Memories like the picture of white clover will push their way into to the present when you use of dementia clips.
These moments are not as far away as they may seem. Our therapy is only a film clip away.
Why reminiscence matters
For someone living with dementia, the past is often clearer than the present. Familiar songs, sights, and voices from years gone by can stir memories and feelings that bring them back into focus, even if just for a moment. To do that there needs to be a stimuli. Our clips and support notes provide that stimuli.
Our reminiscence film therapy taps into these preserved memories, using archive film clips paired with warm introductions and gentle questions to stimulate conversation, memory, and joy.
What does a moment of clarity look like?
It looks like a father recognising something about his past working life, and telling his daughter stories she has never heard before.
It looks like a mother who has been quiet for days, suddenly smiling and tapping her foot to a song from her youth.
It looks like a grandmother laughing again, her eyes bright as she points out something she remembers, reminding everyone who she still is beneath the dementia.
These moments matter. They remind the person with dementia—and their carers—that connection is still possible. Using our therapy help people find the places where their past memories are hiding.

When you see your loved one’s eyes light up, you realise dementia does not define every moment.
